Lino Printing

Lino printing is cutting into the surface of lino or a rubber material with a scalpel or a lino cutter, a tool specifically designed for the printing technique. The parts you cut away will appear white, or whichever colour paper you use, after you have printed.

Lino printing tips
  • When cutting type into the lino, cut in reverse so it is legible when printed.
  • Leave the lino is warm water for five minutes to soften it up.
  • Experiment on a variety of different paper; watercolour paper and cartridge paper works best.
  • Make sure paper is dry or the ink bleeds when printed.
  • The same technique applies for wood blocks too.
