Final pieces

My cushions in situe

My cushions are amongst other factory-printed cushions on a bed.
They look really good together because of their identical design and the sophistication of the hand-drawn lines in different colours.

I was influenced by this designer cushion of a busy London night scene by Kitty McCall. It's hand-printed onto a black cushion from a drawing inspired by a photograph of a London skyline.
I really like the white lines against the black, it really creates a beautiful night time atmosphere.
I wanted a really busy design for my own cushions to portray the city (Las Vegas) as best as possible. I decided to add colour (instead of having white lines against black background) because the city is famous for its bright neon lights.

The white cushion: 'Daytime'

I think the heavy use of black lines and geometric shapes work well against a white background. It really stands out.
As I was printing this, I made sure I was more careful than before as I didn't want to waste anymore time and money. I used the acetate sheet with my design to properly work out where I wanted my print to go on the cushion. Before, when doing my testers, I forgot about using the acetate to register the position of my design which I think is the reason why the outcome wasn't particularly great.

The black cushion: 'Night time'

I really love the outcome of this cushion. Before, with the tester, the foil didn't properly come off and left it really grainy and flaky. The foil came off very smoothly around the left side to the middle, but I had difficulty wih the right side section of the cushion. I had to heat up the glue with a hairdryer and press the foil into it with my hands as it didn't come off properly in the heat press.
I changed the colours to gold, blue, pink and green. Before I had no gold and I thought it would be appropriate to include it this time to really bring out the glitz and glamour of a typical Las Vegas night scene.
